Three-wheeled electric car!

INTRODUCTION

This affordable electric car has only 3 wheels and its prototype has been made by the Sondors Electric Car Company. Their target starting price is only $10,000.

You might be wondering why they created a three-wheel model, why not a four-wheeler one. The reason is not to stand out but to classify it as a motorcycle and bypass more rigorous regulatory standards. This also cuts the overall cost dramatically.

FEATURES

  1. 75, 150, 200 mile range options.
  2. Front-wheel drive with an all-wheel drive upgrade option.
  3. 0-60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds.

THE INTERIOR

The car, at first glance may look small and two-seater but it comes with a back-seat where there is nothing to the right or left of the person sitting there. It also has a really good headroom.

This design was inspired by Gran Turismo-style cars.

WHERE CAN YOU GET IT?

Sondors have decided that they won’t have dealerships but they will deliver the car directly at your house. In case of any new parts, they will also be shipped directly to the consumer.

World’s most expensive SUV

INTRODUCTION

Any guesses for the world’s most expensive SUV? If you have guessed Lamborghini or Rolls Royce cars, you are wrong. The world’s most expensive SUV is the Karlmann King! It has a starting price of over 1.8 million dollars, approximately 6 times the cost of a Cessna 172-SP.

WHY IS IT THE WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE SUV?

Each Karlmann King is made to individually order in Italy and is made different as per the user’s choice.

Inside the car, there’s everything you can imagine. It has two seats in the rear and a big legroom. There’s a coffee machine; there’s a bar you can put champagne in if you want; there’s a refrigerator; and there’s a PS4 as well! It also has ambient lighting along with pop-out tables and a starry ceiling.

Not only this, the car can also resist temperatures from -40 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Last but not the least, everything in this car is controlled through a custom touchscreen remote. It’s like a “mini hotel.”

Self-driven cars

INTRODUCTION

Google’s self-driven car model

A self-driven car (autonomous or driverless car) is a vehicle that uses a combination of sensors, cameras, radar and artificial intelligence to travel to different destinations without a human operating it. To be fully autonomous, it must be able to navigate without human help, over roads that have not been adapted for its use. Companies such as BMW, Audi, Google, Tesla, Ford, Volvo and Volkswagen are working on it.

As you can see above, these are the levels a car has to complete to be fully autonomous:

  1. An advanced driver assistance helps the human.
  2. The ADS can control, steering, breaking and accelerating. The human needs to perform other tasks and be attentive.
  3. ADS can perform all driving tasks. In some circumstances the human must be ready with the wheel to get rid of these kinds of circumstances.
  4. ADS can perform all driving tasks and monitor the road in some circumstances. The human doesn’t have to pay attention in those.
  5. An ADS on the vehicle does all the driving in all circumstances. The humans just have to relax and enjoy. The do not take part in any of the driving.

In 2019, i.e. now, car makers have reached level 3!

WORKING OF A SELF-DRIVEN CAR

The working of the car is described in the image above. A brief:

  1. IoT sensors – There are millions of sensors available today and these sensors make autonomous cars a reality. Sensors such as radar, camera, forward collision warning, LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), blind-spot monitoring and ultrasonic all work together to navigate a self-driving car.
  2. IoT connectivity – These cars use cloud computing to act upon the traffic data, the cars adjacent and the weather maps. They also monitor the surroundings which help in taking informed decisions.
  3. Software Algorithms – All the data the car collects is of no use if the car is unable to take proper actions. This is what algorithms and software do. They help the car make decisions “flawlessly”. Any flaw made could be fatal.

Monowheel

Related image

This is a Monowheel. It is similar to a unicycle except that you sit inside the wheel. It is a crazy machine and is far different from a motorcycle.

WORKING OF A MONOWHEEL

It is powered by a 5 horsepower lawn mower engine and its turning is much similar to a bike. It also has throttle and brakes attached to either of the handle. Driving it is not as easy as it looks. Excess of either thing (brakes or throttle) in the system can send you spinning inside the wheel a few times. Sounds risky, doesn’t it.

HUNTER HOWELL

Hunter Howell, the owner of the monocycle, is an action sports athlete and enthusiast and rides all types of crazy machines from dirt bikes to unicycles.

He got his first monowheel from master monowheel builder Kerry McLean. After spending years riding McLean monowheel, he made some modifications to it, turning it into a tractor monowheel as shown below. This tractor monowheel is much heavier and has a metal frame. It weighs 500 pounds (227 kg)!

A MONOWHEEL RACE EVER TOOK PLACE?

Flatout Friday was the first race to ever feature a monowheel. Hunter Howell took part in the race and grabbed the podium.

PodRide

INTRODUCTION

A PodRide

This bike looks like a car. It’s termed as PodRide. The PodRide is a four-wheeled, electric-assist bike. It is covered by a fabric shell which protects the cyclist from various weather conditions including snow.

It consists of an electric motor that can make it reach speeds of up to 15 mph, so you will have to use your legs and rotate the pedals if you wish to go faster.

WHO MADE IT AND WHY?

Mikael Kjellman is credited to have made the PodRide. He created the PodRide so he could cycle in the winters without any problem. But the PodRide works on more than just snow. It can handle dirt trails as well as ice.

HOW WAS PODRIDE MADE?

Kjellman spent years piecing different cycle parts together and tested different prototypes. Finally, the PodRide came complete with headlights, storage, a small heater, air suspension and a windshield wiper.

WILL PODRIDE COME TO YOU?

After the PodRide became viral in 2016, Kjellman received a lot of interest in the new vehicle and got a few contracts. But the problem was that PodRide was never designed with any thought of mass production. So, Mikael went back to the drawing board and set about redesigning PodRide from the ground up to being better suited for mass production. He even added a few requested features such as a rear child seat. Mikael Kjellman plans on bringing the first PodRide in Europe.

Hyperloop

How a hyperloop would look like.

Introduction

Hyperloop is the upcoming technology. It brings airplane speeds to ground level and consists of two massive tubes extending from San Francisco to Los Angeles. In this mind-blowing technology, pods carrying passengers would travel at speeds topping out over 700 mph (more than 1100 km).

Who made it?

The Hyperloop concept (as it is widely known) was anticipated by a billionaire industrialist Elon Musk , CEO of the aerospace firm SpaceX and the person behind Tesla. It was built in Hawthorne, California at its headquarters.

How does it work?

Carrying several passengers at a speed of more than a thousand kilometers an hour is not a joke. It takes a lot of effort and hard-work to bring it to life. It’s working as planned goes on like this:

1) Passengers and cargo pass through a low-pressure tube

2) These tubes have magnetic accelerators placed at their bottom along the length of the journey.

3) They propel the pods and increase their speed.

4) For safety measures the pods are surrounded by a cushion of air that permits them to move safely.
